Since 2019, Hi-Con and BB fiberbeton are exclusive partners for the Dutch facade market. With this cooperation, we have combined our knowledge and extensive experience with super slender balconies, facades, staircases and bridges in Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) and extremely thin facade cladding in Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC). In this way, we can offer even more exciting choices and product combinations in high quality special concretes for a wide variety of facade projects.

GRC is concrete for a new era. It is a hard material with a dense surface and extreme durability of more than 100 years. Danish, eco-friendly and sustainable production with low energy consumption and without any toxic materials.

GRC is sprayed into molds and formed into elements of often 12 mm thickness. The thin-shell elements are lightweight and therefore reduce both sub-constructions, load on buildings, and CO2 emissions during transport. GRC is easy and simple to handle and install.

GRC is becoming more and more popular among architects as it gives great design freedom and thus help challenge the boundaries of architecture. With GRC, ideas can be shaped in sizes and geometry. GRC can take any form, and appearance of surface can be detailed for both new buildings and renovations.

Mounting principles

All facade projects are bespoke solutions and a part of the process is to identify the optimal mounting principle. For GRC there are various (combinations of) mounting principles possible. 

 

Stud-frame

In GRC integrated hot dipped galvanized or stainless steel frame sub-structure.

Anchoring points: 4 to 6 per (large format) element, hidden.

For complete and quick mounting, roughly twice as fast as the other options. 

 

Brackets

In GRC integrated stainless steel brackets.

Anchoring points: 3 per m2 / 600 - 800 mm c.t.c., hidden.

For versatile mounting, suitable for practically all kinds of sub-structures.

 

bigHeads®

In GRC integrated stainless steel inserts.

Anchoring points: 3 per m2 / 600 - 800 mm c.t.c., hidden.

For anchoring to complete mounting systems for third-party ventilated facades.

 

Recessed Holes

In GRC integrated recessed holes.

Anchoring points: 3 per m2 / 600 - 800 mm c.t.c., covered with GRC plug.

For basic mounting extremely close to the sub-structure. 

 

FA1000®-systeem

By BB fiberbeton in-house developed mounting system.

Material specifications

GRC by BB fiberbeton is made of white cement and crushed dolomite reinforced with glassfibres. The material is spray-cast to make thin-shell elements custom designed for the job (spray-up class 18P following the International Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete Association - GRCA). The material properties and production method mean extensive architectural and structural freedom. This makes that the robust but extremely thin facade material is used extremely efficiently: only there where really needed.

GRC by BB fiberbeton is environmentally friendly and part of several sustainable, with LEED Platinum / DGNB Platinum rewarded buildings.

About BB fiberbeton

Our partner producer BB fiberbeton is market leader in Denmark in GRC for the building industry and has been active since the 1980s. In addition to facade elements, BB fiberbeton also produces balcony cladding, parapets, cornices and window sills.

BB fiberbeton is a family-owned business with more than 60 employees and winner of the Danish People Prize 2019 for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

 

GRCA

BB fiberbeton is accepted into the International Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete Association (GRCA) as a Full Member, which means there are sufficient resources in plant, equipment and labour to consistently design and manufacture high quality GRC elements. BB fiberbeton has quality management systems and production controls in place to comply with the requirements of the GRCA Specification, Method of Testing and Practical Design Guide. As part of the Full Membership, the high quality standards are being audited yearly by a third party.
