A TIMBER CONSTRUCTION IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS

In the scenic landscape of Ebeltoft in Denmark, Campus BØGEHØJ has been expanded with a new residential wing. The building features 80 modern rooms, conference facilities, a bistro, and shared spaces designed to strengthen Campus BØGEHØJ’s role as a gathering place for Salling Group’s students and employees.

The project was designed by C.F. Møller Architects, with a focus on creating a structure where natural materials, simplicity, and functionality meet. The building is constructed from Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) and glulam, and according to CLT Denmark, the project consists of approximately 7,500 m² of CLT and 135 m³ of glulam.

To support the structure’s weight limitations, Hi-Con supplied slender sills made of Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), a material that combines slender design, high strength, and long durability in one solution.

"We’ve been very satisfied with the collaboration. Hi-Con has been professional and solution-oriented throughout the process."

WHY IS UHPC IDEAL FOR TIMBER CONSTRUCTION?

Timber and UHPC are a natural match when the goal is to create lightweight, elegant, and fire-safe buildings. While CLT contributes warmth, low weight, and a natural aesthetic, UHPC adds technical strength, refined aesthetics, and durability.

The material’s slender and refined profile makes it possible to maintain a sense of lightness in the architecture, even in large cantilevers or long spans. At the same time, UHPC is fire-resistant and can meet strict fire safety requirements without additional fire coatings, which are often challenging for timber structures. Its dense, non-porous surface also makes UHPC structurally maintenance-free, reducing long-term operational costs and ensuring consistently high quality throughout the building’s lifespan.

When timber and UHPC are combined, the result is a building system that brings together the best of nature and technology. A structure that appears light yet lasts for generations.
