MODERN APARTMENTS

Selmerhusene is the final project in the development of Bindesbøll Byen – a new, modern residential area in Aarhus, Denmark. The four courtyard buildings, each with its own green inner space, comprise a total of 294 apartments built in three stages. Phases 1 and 2 are already complete and buzzing with life, while the final stage is expected to be finished by the end of 2025.

From the beginning, the project focused strongly on architecture, high-quality materials, and sustainability, which is reflected in its DGNB Gold precertification.

One of the standout qualities of Selmerhusene is that every apartment has at least one spacious balcony or terrace. These extend the living areas outdoors, offering residents direct access to the surrounding landscape. The balconies, delivered by Hi-Con, are designed with a slim and elegant profile that complements the modern architecture and reinforces the project’s high standards.

"Selmerhusene required a balcony solution that could combine a slender and elegant design with a competitive price, without compromising on quality. Our concept balconies in Ultra High Performance Concrete delivered exactly that. And thanks to their low weight, installation could take place quickly and efficiently."

A HIGH-QUALITY BALCONY SOLUTION

WHAT ARE CONCEPT BALCONIES?

Hi-Con’s concept balcony is our standard solution for balcony projects. It shares the same high material quality and technical properties as our tailor-made solutions but comes at a more budget-friendly price and with shorter delivery times. The slim design also makes installation faster and simpler, making it an obvious choice for projects where cost, design, and deadlines are critical.

Like our bespoke balconies, the concept balcony is cast in Hi-Con’s own UHPC – a material known for its strength, dense structure, and long lifespan. This makes it possible to create elegant, slender profiles without compromising on durability, safety, or performance, while UHPC is also fire-resistant and maintenance-free.

A lifecycle analysis shows that Hi-Con’s concept balconies emit 22.8% less CO₂ than comparable steel balconies over a 50-year period. Read more about the CO₂ savings here.
