Townhouses in Denmark opt for thin balconies in UHPC

Townhouses with a classic character

Hi-Con has the pleasure of delivering balconies in Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) to Kong Georgs Vej 57-61 in Frederiksberg, Denmark. This new construction comprises 38 private townhouses with residential sizes ranging from 55 to 140 square meters and a total floor area of 3,615 square meters. The construction will consist of staggered units of varying heights, adapted to the area's classic character.

Kong Georgs Vej is enriched with green surroundings and chestnut trees that encircle the surrounding buildings. Hi-Con's balconies will provide residents with their own private outdoor space where they can enjoy the scenic atmosphere.

There are strict requirements in the local plan for design, specifically for the balconies, which must be made with thin and floating slabs in high performance concrete, without visible diagonal braces or supports. This imposes demands on structural solutions to ensure sufficient load-bearing capacity and meet the energy requirements for thermal bridging interruption.

Project details

Due to the strict requirements for balcony design, load-bearing capacity, and energy efficiency at Kong Georgs Vej 57-60, UHPC was chosen as the ideal material. UHPC enables lightweight, thin, and floating balcony slabs without visible supports or diagonal braces, fulfilling the requirements and desires of Frederiksberg Municipality.

Hi-Con will deliver 43 balconies in light UHPC CRC i2 in 3 different variations for Kong Georgs Vej. The balconies will be produced in lengths of approximately 2.5m, 3m, and 5m and have a plate thickness of approximately 80-95mm.
